Alcohol, Drugs and Substance Misuse
The fostering and adoption team has an expectation that carers will behave responsibly in the use of alcohol in the presence of children.

Overnight stays
Children who are looked after should not be discriminated against because they are in care. As such they should have the same opportunities to maintain friendships as their peers and this includes, where appropriate being able to stay at their friends homes without the need for any Disclosure and Barring Service or Police checks. Medication
When a child is looked after it is imperative that they continue to receive appropriate medication, and that this is stored and administered safely and effectively.

Behavioural Management
Some children who are looked after will present with challenging behaviour, including being physically and verbally abusive. This requires clear management in a controlled manner in order to reduce the incidences of the same behaviour happening again.

Permissible Sanctions
Any sanctions used by foster carers must be appropriate and only be imposed where there has been no response to diversion or verbal reprimand and after considering each child's placement and their care plan.

Foster carers should work with children and young people to ensure that they are guided, and able, to make their own suitable choices with regard to their clothing and appearance.

Provision and Preparation of Meals
Children in foster care should be provided with adequate quantities of suitably prepared food, having regard to their needs and wishes, and have age appropriate opportunity to shop for and prepare their own food.
