Unauthorised Absence from the Secure Unit
The safety of young people of primary importance. Their safety may be at risk by their absence from the unit therefore staff must take all reasonable steps to ensure young people are found and returned to the unit as quickly as possible.

Behaviour Management (Secure Accommodation)
Within secure accommodation circumstances may arise where behaviour needs to be managed to protect young people and staff. Whilst it is recognised that the first level of intervention must be verbal further intervention in the form of sanctions and or restraint may be necessary to ensure safety. Records will be kept of each intervention to ensure the rights and safety of young people and staff.

Room searches may be a necessary part of the care of young people within the Secure Unit to ensure their continued safety and that of others. Such searches will be undertaken whilst protecting the dignity of and showing respect to the young person,

Staff Relationships with Young People
The unit believes that the basis of good practice is rooted in the relationships developed between the adults and young people and that adults should be pro-active at displaying their own trustworthiness and reliability in order that young people develop such traits.

Fire Precautions, Health and Safety
On every occasion that the Secure Unit is activated each member of staff and any young people accommodated will be given an induction into procedures to follow in the event of fire.
